I am back from my exile. It was long and hard, and I did not enjoy it. While I was away, it was nearly impossible to update Wifighter. I have also had a rough time upgrading to WordPress 2.6. Yes, I got locked out of my own page. Grrrr. We are now running on WP 2.7.1, and it appears that I will be able to do most of my updates right in the dashboard, and that make me a happy camper. I still am wrestling with .htaccess files. I really do not know what I am doing with them. I used an online editor to create on, but it seemed like it wanted to throw up a login screen just to visit the site. I will keep working on that. I still have lots of books to unpack. Perhaps I will find the answer in one of those. Really though, kudos to the folks that brought us this update to WordPress.
I hope that everyone had a great Valentines. Mine was great. I did not go overboard, but I think that @cateyes got it.
Cheers…
What can I say. I have no one else to blame but myself. It is kind of funny though. Most people that I work with use Windows PCs. It does fit into what happens when you work in a Window’s world. I purchased my forth Mac this Christmas for @cynthia. I have a handful of iPods, but I thought that it would be difficult for me to get new content onto my iPods. Well, now I have the Zune… I just do not have that many good things to say about it. Let me give this some further thought before my final judgement…

Not all of us spend all of our time connected to the rest of the World. When that time comes this FireFox extension may be a lifesaver, or at least help you keep your sanity. ScrapBook works of the concept of, “Gee, I like this magazine article, but I do not want the rest of this rag that is made up of advertising and those Subscription cards that fall about the floor. I read about the technical term for those a few days ago. I will get back to you with that true believers. So, where was I? Okay, so we have all been there… Look left, look right, look left again. Now carefully tear that page out. Put it in your pocket and act cool as you disgard the rest of the magazine. With ScapBook, you click up on the FireFox tool bar, select where to save it, and wait a few seconds. I save it to my Flashdrive and it is now with me whereever I go. ScrapBook does what it advertises and best of all it is free.
Big day for us yesterday, with the delivery of six notebooks for the new office. The joy of the unpacking ended shortly after we were four hours into preparing them for deployment. From 4PM to 3AM two of us were uninstalling 40 pieces of bloatware, installing an office suite, critical apps, anti virus, applying AV updates, Windows updates, and other patches. Well the first two units were handed out at 3AM, to some tired souls. No major problems so far, but we could tell that two of them had some usage prior to us buying them. An observation that we made was that all six of them ran a little different even thought they are identical. Of course I would have loved to have seen six MacBooks come out of those boxes, but it is still a windows world.
Speaking about companies that get it and take care of the consumer. I have owed Xeric Design Ltd. the makers of Time Palette and EarthDesk props for several months now for doing the right thing. If you have not used there software, give it a shot. Every asks about EarthDesk, which puts picture of the earth on your desktop, and shades it in representing real time light conditions. You can even download real time cloud imagery. To make a long story short, through their web based store, I purchased updates for both of their programs. A couple of days later, I received an email from the company’s president telling me that I did not need to pay for the upgrade to Time Palette, and offered either a refund or a full license to give to a friend. That is getting it right…
I know there are a few out there that have actually filled an iPod full of media. In my case that is a 60GB iPod with video. My first Powerbook had about an 80GB HD, so that means you’ve got to put your information somewhere else. The Apple Store sold plenty of USB BUS Power drives. So, it was a no brainer to get one of those. I just have to warn you that it is going to be pretty frustrating trying to make this a reality. Firewire is in my opinion the best way to power an external HD without a separate power supply. I am sure someone out there can tell me that Firewire will trash my on battery power time. Good luck and buy your stuff from somewhere that will give you a refund or an exchange.
